Within these pages you will find loads of useful advice that will help with some of the practical problems you may face whilst at University. The site is divided into areas such as Housing, Immigration, and Education etc. Each page provides a basic overview of the common problems we deal with as well as access to our comprehensive guides on each individual area. The Welfare and Education Centre is a free, confidential and INDEPENDENT advice service provided by the Student Union. We are based on the Student Union level (first floor) of the Campus Centre building in Leicester. We have four trained advisers and one administrative member of staff within the centre. We can assist you with virtually any welfare or course related problem whilst you are studying at this university. We aim to provide everything from one-off simple advice to long-term casework support. We also provide advocacy for DMU students both within the University and to external organisations, e.g. representing you at a DMU disciplinary hearing or in court to recover your housing deposit. In the event that our trained advisers cannot assist you, we can refer you to a number of external agencies for specialist help. Landlord/tenant disputes, disrepair, deposit refunds, illegal eviction, problems whilst living in University halls, Council Tax. Problems with course fees, hall fees, Student Loans. Details of your eligibility for Hardship Loans, Hardship Fund, LEA grants, repeat funding. Advice about working, remaining in the UK after your studies or bring family members to the UK during your studies. We can represent you at Academic Appeals or Disciplinary Hearings. Advice is available regarding Extenuating Circumstances you may experience, e.g. personal problems/illness etc which may affect your studies.
