► Student Trustee

DSU has recently undertaken a governance review and as a result it is now seeking to appoint four Student Trustees to join its new Trustee Board. This is a fantastic developmental opportunity for the right person.

These positions are:
•    Chair of Student Council
•    Academic Board Representative
•    Two open places

These positions are voluntary and assigned based on elections.

The Trustee Board
The Trustee Board will be made up of the five Sabbatical Officers (President, Deputy President Education, Vice President Student Activities, Vice President Media and Communications and Vice President Welfare), the above mentioned four Student Trustee positions and four external trustees, appointed to strengthen the Trustee Board by virtue of specific skills and experience in key areas.

Key responsibilities

Trustees will take overall responsibility for the work that the organisation undertakes and focus the strategic direction of the organisation. Trustees will also agree plans and budgets and will hold the Director to account for the delivery of the plans.

Trustees will be expected to attend and actively contribute to four meetings per year.

SPECIFIC DUTIES FOR THE STUDENT TRUSTEES
Each of the following positions would be one of the Student Trustees of De Montfort Students' Union and would be required to attend the appropriate training (which may take place over the summer).

CHAIR OF STUDENT COUNCIL

·    Chairs Student Council, which would meet twice per term. The Chair would have voting rights in Student Council.
·    Main responsibility for convening Student Council, although any member can request meetings.
·    Main responsibility for the compilation of the agenda.
·    Understanding of the items for discussion, including consultation with the appropriate person(s).

ACADEMIC BOARD REPRESENTATIVE

·    Alongside the President and the Deputy President Education, the Academic Board Representative would attend the monthly Academic Board meetings. These are also attended by the Vice Chancellor, the 4 Pro Vice Chancellors, the Deans and Heads of Study within each Faculty and a member of academic staff from each Faculty.
·    Ensure that the views of the student body are properly represented, rather than one’s personal views, and ensure that appropriate consultation and research is undertaken to make this possible.
·    Meet with other representatives as appropriate to ensure the Union speaks with a consistent voice within the forum and that Union policy is adhered to.
