British Red Cross

The Red Cross are a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are both locally, nationally and abroad. They offer a variety of services and rely on public support to fund and sustain these activities.

Opportunities: Finance Assistant, Recycling Champion, Events Marketing Support, Office Support Volunteer

Times: Flexible to suit.


CLASH

CLASH is a local charity who provide support services and activities to people suffering with arthritis. Included in their programme of activities is the provision of adapted IT equipment and training.

Opportunity: IT Workshop Assistant, Computer Technician

Times: Flexible to suit.


Complete Wasters

Complete wasters are a community not-for-project organisation who look for volunteers to help out with environmental projects.

Opportunities: Reception and Shop Assistant, Computer Set Up Assistant and Ebay Technician

Times: Shop open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday10am-4pm. Times to suit


Cooke E Learning Foundation  

The Cooke E-Learning Foundation is a community outreach project which aims to help people with English as a second language to improve their literacy & communication skills through the use of interactive software and web based resources. 

Opportunities:  IT Technician, Community IT Support and Community Learning Champion 

Times: Commitment is around 3 hours per week


Cyclemagic 

Cyclemagic is one of the UK's leading community cycling organisations who enable people with special needs and disabilities to access cycling. The premises they occupy was once the Leicester Cycle Company, one of England most prestigious cycle manufactures which was established in the 1890s. 

Opportunity: Brand Marketing Team Member 

Times: This is a short term project, work needs to be completed by end of January


De Montfort University Students’ Union - currently recruiting.

There are many opportunities to assist the Student Union with administrative support, particularly within the Volunteering team.

Opportunity: Administration Assistant

Times: Volunteers ideally need to be free to help on Tuesdays, but other days considered. Times to suit.


Essensual Rejuvenation 

Essensual Rejuvenation Dance is a voluntary run organisation who aim to provide young and old people with opportunities to become fit and active. They run dance and fitness sessions 50 weeks of the year, with all sessions, shows and performances led by volunteers.

Opportunities: Poster / Business Card Designer and Web Designer 

Times: Flexible to suit, all work carried out at home


FUSE Project

The FUSE Mentoring project works with young people aged 13-15 who live in care in Leicestershire. The project is looking for admin support one day a week. 

Opportunity: FUSE project administrator 

Times: One day a week, minimum commitment of 3 months  


Headway

Headway is a voluntary organisation specialising in providing support and services to adults with an acquired or traumatic brain injury and their families.

Opportunities: Social Networking Volunteer, Ebay account Volunteer, Fundraising Volunteer (including bid writing), Marketing Volunteer, Event Organiser

Times: Reliability and commitment are key, flexible to suit.


InterNICHE

InterNICHE is an international network promoting humane education and scientific alternatives to animal testing in the life sciences. Volunteer-led, this organisation relies on voluntary support to carry out its campaigning activities

Opportunities: Database Officer, Accounts Assistant, Web Designer and IT Assistant, Researcher, Administrator

Times: Flexible to suit, most of the work will be carried out from home.


Leicestershire Outdoor Pursuits Centre

LOPC has been in existence for about 40 years, originally being part of Leicestershire County Council Youth Services, then Leicester City Council Arts and Leisure Department.  As a volunteer you will assist the staff members in providing support to children who visit the centre. The role is varied and therefore you could be expected to help with administration duties, assisting with general upkeep of the building and grounds and assisting with the delivery of Holiday scheme and assist instructors where possible with the activity sessions

Times:
9am-6pm week days during school holidays. The minimum commitment is one full week.


Learning for the 4th Age

L4A aim to provide 1-to-1 educational and learning services to care home residents. They look for volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to be matched with a local elderly resident to share these interests and complete activities with them.

Opportunity: Administration Assistant

Times: Approx 2 hours per week, flexible to suit.


Leicester Caribbean Carnival

Leicester’s Caribbean Carnival is a vibrant annual event which takes place in August based at Victoria Park.

Opportunities: Admin Assistant, Website Designer

Times: Flexible, hours to suit.


Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living

LCIL provide learning opportunities for local people with physical, mental and learning disabilities. They are particularly keen to get volunteers involved with the running of their ICT suite based at their Library on Wellington Street.

Opportunities: Information Officers, Research and IT volunteer, Admin and Library volunteer

Times: Preferably 9 hours per week spread over 2 days


Leicester Comedy Festival

The Leicester Comedy Festival is an annual event which attracts national press attention and interest every year. The Festival team relies on the support of volunteers to assist the preparation and running of the event and a variety of positions are available between November and February.

Leicester Print Workshop

Leicester Print Workshop promotes fine art printmaking. From its fully equipped studio in Highfields it offers opportunities for artists to practice their craft and it delivers a full programme of education and exhibitions.

Opportunity: Education Administrator

Times: One morning or afternoon each week


Leicestershire Aids Support Service

LASS provide support services and activities for people living in Leicester who are suffering from HIV or Aids. Volunteers can become involved in all aspects of their work.

Opportunity: Receptionist

Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Board

Local cricket clubs are looking for volunteer co-ordinators to ensure that at the heart of each club is a group of people who are in the right place at the right time with the right skills to enable the club to achieve its goals.  This is an ideal opportunity for somebody interested in Human Resources or People Management

LOROS (currently Full)

LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) is a local charity providing care and support within Leicestershire and Rutland. 

LOROS charges no fees for its services, which are available to all local people regardless of their race or creed. The Charity relies upon the generosity and support of individual people, organisations and groups. It also derives income from its charity shops located throughout the county. 

Opportunity: Hospice Volunteers (administration, reception, fundraising administrator) 

Times: Volunteers must commit regularly to the hospice i.e. Once a week or fortnight.


Making Music

This local organisation is looking for organisers to co-ordinate a number of events ranging from small local arts forums to large scale regional music events. Volunteer Marketing Co-ordinators are needed to help communicate and promote these events to members and developing regional marketing materials for the network. Web Assistants are needed to make updates to the website and post events and news articles to provide relevant information to members.

Oxjam Leicester

Oxjam's aims and objectives are to raise money for the charity Oxfam with live music and fundraising events throughout October. Through these events we hope to raise Leicester’s musical profile and give people the opportunity to be creative along with organising their own events.

Pakistan Youth & Community Association 

The PYCA Centre aims to assist members of the Pakistani and other minority ethnic individuals, to develop themselves in order to better participate in mainstream society. They seek a creative individual to assist to them to set up an e-newsletter; which will be sent to their members, partners, stakeholders etc in order to keep them up to date with their services and projects and market the achievements of our organisations and its clients.

Peepul Centre - Currently FULL.

The Peepul Centre is a multi-purpose venue in the heart of Leicester. They host a series of cultural, sporting and community events and seek to place volunteers in many aspects of their work.

Race Equality Centre

Leicester Racial Equality Council welcomes the assistance of anyone who would like the opportunity to use some of their spare time to work with the LREC with its various projects. This could range from administrative tasks, marketing, research, or community work, to name but a few. They are also looking for a Graphic Designer to assist with creating an interactive online map of community organisations in Leicester.

Refugee Action - currently FULL.

Office volunteers will assist the team administrator with various office based administrative tasks, for example retrieving files for caseworkers, making up new files, answering telephone enquiries, passing messages on to staff members. 

Casework assistant volunteers will meet and great clients visiting the office and assist with basic casework tasks – making phone calls and writing letters, emails and faxes in relation to cases, signposting clients to other sources of advice, ensuring displayed information in the office is up to date and assisting caseworkers with administration, such as opening and closing files, photocopying and organising mail-shots. 

Volunteers would need to commit to at least one day per week and would be given training and regular support / supervision by the team administrator

RSPCA 

The RSPCA in Leicester are looking for an enthusiastic student to help write stories for their newsletter. The stories are not just on animals but on fundraising events, and making up adverts for an upcoming events.

Shopmobility

Based in the Highcross Shopping Centre, Leicester Shopmobility aim to provide an excellent front line service to help, assist, empathise and supply suitable mobility equipment to less-abled customers.

Simon Shiekh Communications Group

Simon Shiekh Communications group is a not-for-profit Public Relations agency which specialise in providing marketing support and managing fundraising appeals for charities based in Leicester, Northampton and Edinburgh.

They are looking for promotion team members to be part of a new promotions team for the group's new 'Name that Tune' fundraising campaign. Promotions will be focused on an event which will take place on 24th April 2010. Working closely with the promotions team leader, volunteers will be asked to attend regular meetings and to use local knowledge to suggest promotional locations and potential opportunities.

SfE is a creative and fast growing organisation which helps individuals and businesses to develop their skills through training, mentoring and helping them to set up their own business. They are currently looking for two volunteer receptionists to work 15 hours a week for 10 weeks at their busy city centre office.

Times: 15 hours between Monday to Thursday 9am-5pm


South and West Leicestershire Citizens Advice Bureau

South and West Leicestershire Citizens Advice Bureau have opened a new office from August 2010 to help local residents access advice and information on a range of subjects and receive enhanced advice in debt, housing and employment from specialist caseworkers.
