 Adhar Project 

The Adhar organisation aims to deliver social drop in and befriending services for the BME community in the Charnwood area with a range of health and social care needs. 

Opportunity: Volunteer Befriender 

Times: Approx 3 hours per week for four to five months of programme.


Blaby CVS 

Blaby CVS support people with mental health difficulties through a variety of activities and support groups. A range of opportunities is available.  

Opportunities: Befriender, working on a 1 to 1 basis, Group Support worker to assist group activities at the day centre.

Times: A regular weekly commitment is required. Approx. 2 hours a week 


Catch 22

Catch 22 support persistent and priority offenders aged 18-25 in prison and on probation. Volunteers visit the young person in prison each week and then work with them once they are on probation.  Catch 22 also work with young people aged 16+ who are leaving care and seek mentors to support these young people through the transition period.

Opportunity: Mentor

Times: Flexible timings, once a week for at least 6 months 


Centre for Fun and Families Ltd 

The Centre for Fun and Families assist families experiencing child/teenager behaviours and communication difficulties, to learn to manage those difficulties more effectively for a more stable and secure family environment. 

Opportunity: Volunteer Mentor 

Times: Groups normally run in the evenings for 2 hour sessions, once a week for 7 weeks. Term time only.


 Coping with Cancer

Coping with Cancer are a local group who work closely with those affected by cancer. One of the range of services they provide is one to one and social group befriending.

Opportunity: Befriender

Times: Meetings are regular, volunteer hours are flexible. A minimum commitment of 12 months is required.  


Danbury Gardens

Danbury gardens is a retirement development for people aged 55 and over with extra care needs. They are looking for volunteers to come in to the residence on a regular basis to teach/play Wii with residents as required. Volunteers will also help with computer literacy if residents need assistance.

Opportunity: Befriender

Times: Flexible - they currently hold a Wii night on Wednesdays from 6-8pm. 


Fuse Mentoring - Now recruiting.

Volunteers are needed to work with 13-15 year olds currently living in care as Mentors. The Mentors work with the young person to increase their confidence and encourage the young person to achieve their goals for the 6 months they work together. Both the young person and the Mentor spend 2-3 hours a week together doing activities and meeting up to chat working towards the goals.

Opportunity: Mentor

Times: 3 hours per week. A minimum commitment of 6 months is required for all mentors. Access to own transport would be advantageous but not essential.


Futures Unlocked - Currently FULL.

Futures Unlocked is a registered charity which aims to support ex-prisoners through the prison gates and successfully back into the community, thus breaking the cycle of offending and reducing rime.

Opportunity: Mentor

Times: Approx 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months.


Interventions

Interventions work with young offenders (10-17 years) on their final warning stage. There are 3 different opportunities available. The PACE role is accompanying the young person to their interviews as their appropriate adult, the other role is supporting a young person as their one to one mentor over either a 12 week or 3-12 month period.

Opportunities: One to one mentor, PACE volunteer.

Times: A regular weekly commitment of approx 2 hours is required. Short term mentoring is up to 12 weeks. 


Learning for the 4th Age

L4A aim to provide 1-to-1 educational and learning services to care home residents. They look for volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to be matched with a local elderly resident to share these interests and complete activities with them.

Opportunity: Learning Mentor

Times: Approx 3 hours per week, flexible to suit.


Leonard Cheshire

Leonard Cheshire provides residential care for adults living with physical disabilities at their homes in Sileby, Anstey and Coalville.

Opportunity: The residents are looking for befrienders to visit them regularly and spend a couple of hours going to the shops, pub, visit friends or go for a walk. Volunteer's interests would be matched to those of the residents. 

Times: Flexible hours can be arranged to fit around study. Volunteers need to be able to give approx 1 hour per week for a minimum of 4-6 months.


National Autistic Society

National Autistic Society offer support to individuals and families affected by Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.

Opportunities: One to one befriender, Social group support

Times: 2 hours per week/fortnight for 1 to 1 befriending, flexible times for group support assistant.


National Probation Service

The Probation Service work with offenders once they are released from prison. The Leicester office are currently taking on volunteers to support offenders through their probation period and re-integration with the Leicester community.

Opportunity: Mentor

Times: Regular 2 hour commitment required to fit around other commitments for a minimum of 6 months.


The Prince's Trust

The Prince's Trust work with 16-25 year olds who are leaving care. They provide support in making the step away from care to living independently for the first time. They also work with disadvantaged young people aged 16-30  and look for “progression mentors” to help them into positive outcomes be they education, training, employment or volunteering

Opportunity: Mentor, Progression Mentor

Times: A regular weekly commitment for a minimum of 9-12 months.


Ryder Cheshire

Ryder Cheshire provide a pathway to learning and leisure opportunities for the physically disabled. They are looking for volunteers to share a common interest, hobby or activity with a physically disabled person and in doing so, provide a new lease of life for that person.

Opportunity: Befriender

Times: Flexible. 2 hours a week.


Voluntary Action Blaby District

Voluntary Action Blaby District are looking to recruit volunteer befrienders to build a relationship of support and encouragement for peopl
e who suffer from anxiety and low self esteem.

Opportunity: Mental Health Befriender  

Times: 2 - 3 hours a week


Voluntary Action Melton 

Voluntary Action Melton provides a wide range of services directly to the people and communities of Melton Borough. They are currently looking for people to come forward and make a real difference to a member of their local community by helping lonely older people or people with a disability feel less isolated. 

Opportunity: Befriender 

Times: Flexible hours and day to suit, a minimum commitment of 3 months is required


Wesley Hall Community Centre

This centre is a central meeting place for local elderly people. Sessions run on arts & crafts and general befriending groups. Most of the residents speak Gujarati, it would be beneficial if volunteers are confident in the language as well as English.

Opportunity: Elderly Group Befriender

Times: Fridays, hours are flexible
