Active Training & Education (ATE)

ATE is a non-for-profit organisation that runs children's holidays at Easter and over the summer vacation. Monitors are assigned their own group and participate in all of the activities and day trips. The aim of the project is to get children outdoors and improve their confidence and communication skills through games, arts and crafts and team challenges.

Opportunities: Monitor

Times:Superweeks are usually 7 days in a residential setting. All monitors must attend residential training before beginning


Ashmount RDA

Ashmount RDA provides horse riding for pupils of Ashmount special school in Loughborough.  They ride every Friday morning in term time from 10.30 to 11.30 and have pupils of different ages and disabilities.   

Opportunities: Side Walker and Leader 

Times: Fridays 10am to 11.30am


Bikes 4 All 

Groundwork’s Bikes 4 All is an award winning community bike enterprise, providing a wide range of cycle related activities, services and opportunities. Bikes 4 all are looking for volunteers to support students involved in their project and help them to improve their literacy and numeracy.

 

Opportunity: Basic Skills Instructor

 

Times: 2 days per week, flexible times to suit 


 Catch 22 

Catch22 is a national charity that works with young people who find themselves in difficult situations.

Catch 22 run a “Fit and Active Families” project which works with 8-15 year olds who are struggling with their weight .Through the programme they deliver a range of activities and interventions that help these youngsters to take on a healthier lifestyle. They do this by raising their self esteem and personal image, informing them about healthy food choices and encouraging them to become active in sport. 

Catch 22 also run a Care leavers Mentoring project and Leicester Prevention Programme working with 8-13 year olds,

Opportunities: Fit and Active Families Volunteer, Youth Inclusion Volunteer, Leicester Prevention Programme Activities Support Volunteer, Care Leavers Mentor.

Availability: Flexible to suit 


Centre for Fun and Families Ltd 

The Centre for Fun and Families assist families experiencing child/teenager behaviours and communication difficulties, to learn to manage those difficulties more effectively for a more stable and secure family environment. 

Opportunity: Volunteer Mentor 

Times: Groups normally run in the evenings for 2 hour sessions, once a week for 7 weeks. Term time only.


 CLASH

CLASH is a local charity who provide support services and activities to people suffering with arthritis. They offer a children’s activity session for those children whose family members are affected by the condition which runs monthly at the Peepul Centre.

Opportunity: Activity Assistant

Times: Volunteers needed on the first Sunday of every month 10am-12pm.  


Coram Adoption Service

This project is looking for volunteers to meet up with children and young people's groups 4-6 times a year (on Saturdays) for support sessions. These sessions involve games, arts & crafts, drama & video and a trip out of the office with the aim of building friendships between adopted children and to provide a soundboard. There are also opportunities to offer one off sessions to a group if you have a talent you would like to share and opportunities to help out on week long holidays.

Opportunities:Volunteer Helper, One Off Session Leader & Holiday Helper 

Times:4-6 times a year on Saturdays.


Diversity Hub 

Diversity hub is a leadership-training organisation that aims to give individuals and groups the skills and tools they need to take a leadership role within their communities and to develop an effective voice. The Making a Difference project is a volunteering project for people aged 16-25 to make a difference in their communities by reducing bullying through a number of volunteer opportunities. 

Opportunity: Anti-Bullying Leader 

Times: Varied commitment up to 2 hours per month for 1 year. Attendance at a 1 day workshop is required before starting


Fuse Mentoring - Now recruiting

Volunteers are needed to work with 13-15 year olds currently living in care as Mentors. The Mentors work with the young person to increase their confidence and encourage the young person to achieve their goals for the 6 months they work together. Both the young person and the Mentor spend 2-3 hours a week together doing activities and meeting up to chat working towards the goals.

Opportunity: Mentor

Times: 3 hours per week. A minimum commitment of 6 months is required for all mentors. Access to own transport would be advantageous but not essential. 


GREAT Learning Centre

The centre uses the world of sport to motivate city and county children to improve skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT. After school clubs run at Leicestershire County Cricket Ground and Beaumanor Hall Education Centre.

Opportunity: Study Coach, to provide support and encouragement to young people to raise academic achievement.

Times:2 hours per week term time


Interventions

As part of the Leicestershire and Rutland Youth Offending Team they offer support to young people and help to reduce/prevent offending.

Opportunities:Mentor, PACE Volunteer

Times:Mentoring placements can be up to a minimum of 12 weeks for young people seeking short-term help, and also between 3-12 months for more long-term assistance


LEBC Right to Read

LEBC place volunteers in primary schools across Leicestershire to help children develop their reading and literacy skills.

Opportunity: Volunteers will support children on a one to one basis with their reading.

Times: 1 hour per week during term time 


Leicester City FC, Leicester Tigers & National Space Centre Study Support

These centres offer young people the opportunity to learn in an active environment away from their school, in after school sessions at the Walkers Stadium, Welford Road and the Space Centre.

Opportunities: Study Mentors and Workshop Co-ordinators

Times: 2 hours a week during term time


Leicester Libraries Children & Young People Service (children & young people) 

Leicester Libraries run a number of projects working with children and young people in libraries across the city. Roles include study support volunteers who help run the study support session at each library and summer scheme volunteers who help to set up and run events, do storytelling with children and helping young children access their local library.

Opportunities: Study Support Volunteer, Summer Scheme Volunteer, Braunstone Carnival Helper, WOT BOX volunteers (working with children and young people in developing media skills.)

Times: Flexible to suit


Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre

LOPC has been in existence for about 40 years, originally being part of Leicestershire County Council Youth Services, then Leicester City Council Arts and Leisure Department.  As a volunteer you will assist the staff members in providing support to children who visit the centre. The role is varied and therefore you could be expected to help with administration duties, assisting with general upkeep of the building and grounds and assisting with the delivery of Holiday scheme and assist instructors where possible with the activity sessions
 
Opportunity: Activate Volunteer 

Times: 9am-6pm week days during school holidays. The minimum commitment is one full week.


Lighthouse Learning

Lighthouse Learning are looking for volunteers aged 16-25 for a variety of exciting learning opportunities for children and young people. You will be involved in running after school clubs, taster sessions and super learning days with a view to inspiring confidence and enthusiasm in school age children

Opportunity: V Project Volunteer

Times: Various 
 

In the summer 2010 Lighthouse Learning will be delivering lots of play schemes and activities for primary school age children and in particular some music projects for young people. The activities will be educational but they will be fun and will have a strong arts and creative element. Volunteers will help by encouraging children, working with small groups and individuals, joining in and have lots of fun.  

Opportunity: Full Time Volunteer 

Times: Volunteers must commit to approx 3 days a week for 2 months.


Mencap

The Melton Mencap Summer Scheme runs for four weeks and provides new experiences and days out for children aged 8-12yrs and 13-18yrs with learning disabilities, enabling them to play, seek adventure, and have fun! They are looking for volunteers to support the scheme by helping to run activities and accompanying children on trips. 

Opportunity: Summer Scheme Volunteer

Times: The summer scheme runs 19th July to 12th August. The exact times and days to volunteer can be negotiated with the manager


Menphys

Menphys provide a range of sport, play and leisure activities to children and young people with special needs. Volunteers are needed to support the Menphys’ Saturday Club for young people, to help members to access the activities and assist the set up and clearing away of equipment. Volunteers are welcome to contribute to the planning of a programme of activities and facilitating their introduction.

Opportunities: Youth Group Leaders (5-16 years & 16+years)

Times: Saturday mornings


One Voice

DSU are looking for international students to go into local schools to teach their native language. Volunteers would give a couple of hours a week for a period of roughly 8 weeks. You would be supervised by a teacher from the school and would be trained to cope with teaching. All in all this is a great opportunity to make a difference and have some fun and you’re also welcome to volunteer with friends!

Peepul Centre

The Peepul Centre is a multi-purpose venue in the heart of Leicester. They host a series of cultural, sporting and community events and seek to place volunteers in many aspects of their work including for their childcare facility.

Opportunity: Childcare Assistant

Times: Flexible to suit. 



Play Barn

The Play Barn is an adventure playground with large areas and structures. It also has an indoor area where they do lots of exciting activities. Children and young people can play by themselves, or join in on the many fun activities that are going on at the Play Barn all year round.

The Prince's Trust

The Trust are looking for volunteers to work with young people aged 16 to 25 years old wishing to improve their skills and attitudes for a brighter future. 

They also work with disadvantaged young people aged 16-30  and look for “progression mentors” to help them into positive outcomes be they education, training, employment or volunteering. 

Opportunities: Assistant Team Leader and Learning Support Assistant, Progression Mentor 

Times: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, for 12 weeks


Recovery

Recovery is a local mental health charity which is currently seeking new volunteers to mentor young people at risk of exclusion, who have learning difficulties, mental health issues or a disability.

Opportunity: Youth Worker

Times: Minimum committment of 2-8 hours per week, weekdays or weekends


Sure Start

The Sure Start Centres work with families to ensure healthy and equal starts to children's lives. The children are aged 0-5 years. A variety of opportunities exist to support their service.

Opportunities:Ambassador, Bookstart Volunteer, Buddy, Skill Share Volunteer, Toy Library Assistant and general positions are available.

Times: Flexible 


Uplands Junior School 

Uplands believe that a child's experience should be truly artistic and that theatre practise in schools should adopt a cross curricular approach. The school run a summer school to extend children's learning in designated subjects and to improve the confidence and morale of the student body through performance.Volunteers are needed to support the summer school by supervising students, offering creative input and helping with stage management. 

Opportunity: Workshop Assistants 

Times: The summer school runs from 19th July to 6th August and volunteers can negotiate exact times and dates with school staff


Voluntary Action Melton  

Voluntary Action Melton provides a wide range of services directly to the people and communities of Melton Borough. They are currently looking for volunteers to make a real difference to primary age children who may not be doing as well as they should be, either at schools and/or home due to low self-esteem or other issues. 

Opportunity: Pyramid Club Leader/Helper 

Times: 3pm-5pm one day per week for minimum 3 months 


Woodcraft Folk

The Woodcraft Folk is an educational movement for children and young people, aiming to develop children’s self-confidence and involvement in their community, to encourage friendship, peace and co-operation, with the aim of building a world based on equality while at the same time having lots of fun!

Opportunity: Assistant Group Leaders

Times: Monday evenings for 2 hours


Young Enterprise 

Young Enterprise aims to inspire and equip young people to succeed through enterprise. The Primary Programme is for children aged 4-11 and provides building blocks for skills development and understanding of the 'world of work'.

Opportunities:Primary Programme Advisor, Secondary Programme Advisor

Times:1 hour per week for 5 weeks. One off events are also available


Youth Hostel Association  

YHA deliver a do it 4 real summer camp programme during the school summer holidays. They have a number of volunteering placements available in a number of the camps, providing volunteers with an excellent opportunity to gain some valuable experience working with young people.

 Opportunity: Summer Camp Volunteers 

Times: Camps run throughout July and August for 3, 5 or 6 weeks.


Youth Inclusion Programme 
 
DSU are working with the Leicester Youth Inclusion Programme to provide a 6 week after school programme in arts, drama and sports. Leaders will develop and deliver the programme to the 8-12 year olds.

Opportunities:After School Club Leader 

Times: Approx 2 hours per week for 6 weeks. Willowbrook Primary School

 Youth Offending Team

Youth Offending Team works with young people to empower them to live crime free lives.

Opportunities: Panel member, Mentor

Times: Panel members need to attend regular meetings for 1 year. Mentors can join short term intervention programme (6 weeks) or longer term mentoring (between 3-12 months)
