Where did you hear about the Volunteer Academy?
 
“I heard about the Volunteer Academy after attending a course at the Southfields College they found me a suitable placement in my chosen volunteer organisation”

Why did you want to volunteer?
 
“Initially I wanted to do something constructive with my spare time but since volunteering I’ve realised it’s about the people your meeting and the opportunities of learning new skills”
 
Who are you volunteering for?

“I am volunteering for the British Trust Conservation Volunteers”
 
What does that entail?
 
“The Trust help people to look after and learn about their local environment running various projects throughout the year”
 
Describe a normal day of your volunteering
 
“Their are no two days the same, but a normal day would start at 10am and can be anything from clearing ponds and streams, repairing footpaths or a wide range of other countryside tasks just recently we have been hedge laying and planting”
 
How long have you been volunteering there?
 
“I have been volunteering so far for 8 months”
 
How long do you see yourself volunteering there?
 
“I enjoy volunteering with BTCV and so will continue with them, I have also considered volunteering with other organisations”
 
What do you feel you have gained from your volunteering?
 
“I have gained so much from volunteering, firstly it’s a great way of meeting up with like minded people and being part of a team, I have learnt so many new skills which is great in building up your confidence and also the feel good factor in achieving something”
 
Are you glad you volunteered through the Volunteer Academy?
 
“Volunteering through the Academy has been good not only are they there to find a suitable placement but also continuing support and  update you on further volunteering and training opportunities”
 
What was the best bit of your volunteering experience so far?
 
“Every time I go out volunteering its a different day which brings its highs but for me one experience that I will always remember was volunteering on The Special Olympics held this summer in Leicester we all had a brilliant time and one experience which will last, met some brilliant people some I still keep in touch with”
