Age Concern
 
Age Concern seeks to maintain and improve the quality of life and dignity of older people. They seek volunteers in different areas including care, support and knitting!

Ashmount RDA
 
Ashmount RDA provides horse riding for pupils of Ashmount special school in Loughborough. They ride every Friday morning in term time from 10.30 to 11.30 and have pupils of different ages and disabilities.

British Red Cross
 
The Red Cross are a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are both locally, nationally and abroad. They offer a variety of services and rely on public support to fund and sustain these activities.

British Heart Foundation
 
The British Heart Foundation look for general shop assistants to help out with stock pricing and sorting, customer service, till training is provided. There are two shops in Leicester, a general charity shop and a furniture & electrical store.

Community Health Volunteer Scheme
 
The Community Health Volunteer Service supports the development and delivery of volunteering within the Leicester City Community Health Service.

Complete Wasters
 
Volunteers are needed to assist with basic administration and reception duties from the Green Gift shop at the Complete Wasters Eco Centre. Tasks involve basic data entry, providing good customer service to visitors and answering telephone calls. There is also the opportunity to assist in the Cafe, serving beverages and preparing light snacks for customers.
 
Opportunities: Reception and Shop Assistant

Cooke E Learning Foundation
 
The Cooke E-Learning Foundation is a community outreach project which aims to help people with English as a second language to improve their literacy & communication skills through the use of interactive software and web based resources. They are looking for Community Learning Champions to work in different communities to support ‘hard to reach’ adults, who would not normally access main services and encourage them to take part in informal community learning opportunities to help them learn new skills and gain confidence in speaking English.
 
Opportunities:  Community Learning Champion
 
Times: Commitment is around 3 hours per week

 
Coping with Cancer
 
Coping with Cancer provide support to local people whose life has been affected by cancer through on-going counselling, support and group activities at their Day Centre in Leicester City Centre.
 
Opportunities: Numerous roles available including Befriender, Youth Group assistant, Fundraising Assistant, Telephone Advice Line assistant, Counsellor*, Complimentary therapist* and Volunteer driver. (*Relevant qualification must be held)
 
Times: Varied hours to suit, a minimum commitment of 12 months applies to befriending opportunities. 
 

 
Curtis Weston Day Centre
 
The day centre works with older people. The clients would like to have young people to discuss current affairs with. They are also looking for volunteers to take part in social group sessions and for volunteers to run skill-sharing sessions e.g. arts and crafts.

DAIN Project
 
The Digital Activist Inclusion Network (DAIN) is an exciting volunteer project working across the East Midlands. DAIN aims to promote digital inclusion by encouraging people to use technology with the help of volunteers (Digital Activists).

Endeavour
Endeavour exists to provide programmes of practical and challenging experience to help young people to develop their potential as individuals, in teams and as active members of society.

Headway
 
Headway provides a large range of activities for adults recovering from a brain injury. Activities are designed to help with difficulties in concentration, speech, memory and sight.
 
Opportunities: Activity helpers. Activities may include Painting, Games, Computers, Camera work, Education, Gardening, Art & crafts, Cooking, Reading, Sewing, Woodwork, Mosaics.
 
Times: A regular weekly commitment of 3 hours is needed and for a minimum of 6 months 

 
Home Start UK
 
Home-Start offers support, friendship and practical help to parents with young children in local communities throughout the UK.
 
Opportunities: Fundraising Events Researcher
 
Times: One day per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday 9am to 5pm. Minimum commitment of 2 months
 

 
Just...Fair Trade
 
Just...Fair Trade Ltd. Just is a fair trade shop in Leicester City centre that sells a variety of products and promotes the fair trade movement.

Learning for the 4th Age
 
L4A aim to provide 1-to-1 educational and learning services to care home residents. They look for volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to be matched with a local elderly resident to share these interests and complete activities with them.
 
Opportunity: Learning Mentor
 
Times: Approx 3 hours per week, flexible to suit. 
 

 
Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living
LCIL provide learning opportunities for local people with physical, mental and learning disabilities. They are particularly keen to get volunteers involved with the running of their ICT suite based at their Library on Wellington Street.
Opportunities: Information Officers, Research and IT volunteer, Admin and Library volunteer
Times: Preferably 9 hours per week spread over 2 days

 
Leicester College
 
The Skills for Life department at Leicester College works with adults to improve their maths and English skills for everyday life.

Times: Classes run in the daytime and evening every week day so times available to volunteer are flexible.

 
Leicester Interfaith Youth HUB  
 
The Leicester Interfaith Youth HUB aim to contribute to a safer and more cohesive world by working alongside people of all faiths and building upon the strong tradition of partnership between the faiths in Leicester.

Leicester Libraries offer a number of roles in libraries across the city. Home Library Service Volunteers provide access to library services for people who cannot visit their local library independently.

Leicestershire Aids Support Services
 
Volunteers are needed to support sexual health promotion and/or HIV awareness raising by delivering focused sessions with different groups within the city, county and/or Rutland as appropriate & and by managing stalls and displays at events, festivals, health fairs and other occasions in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
 
Opportunities: Prevention Educator, Events Volunteer, Befriender, Youth volunteers for “Creative Youths Shout Safer Sex” Project (16-23 only)

LeicestHERday Trust
 
The LeicestHERday Trust are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and creative individuals aged 16-25 to interview a unique and diverse range of women from all over the city and county, using a variety of mediums including radio, video, photography, artwork and oral history.
 
The aim is to create a lasting archive detailing the experiences of local women over the past 100 years. The completed collection of stories will be permanently archived in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Record Offices and promoted via the Leicester Mercury and BBC Radio Leicester.

LiNKS
 
LINK forums are made up of groups of volunteers who are enthusiastic about helping patients and members of the public influence the way that local healthcare is organised and delivered. Forum members come from a broad variety of backgrounds and have a range of experiences and skills.  They are keen to work with all sectors of the community to find out what people really think about health and healthcare in the local area - and take action.

LOROS
 
LOROS (the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisation for the Relief of Suffering) is a local charity providing care and support within Leicestershire and Rutland.
 
LOROS charges no fees for its services, which are available to all local people regardless of their race or creed. The Charity relies upon the generosity and support of individual people, organisations and groups. It also derives income from its charity shops located throughout the county.
 
Opportunities: Shop Assistant, Support Volunteers (Home Visiting Service), Hospice Volunteers (hairdressing and beauty care, snack bar and Driving), Donation Sorter and Drivers Mate

Making Music
 
Making Musicrepresent and support over 2,800 voluntary and amateur music groups throughout the UK. A lot of community music groups in the region are putting on really exciting events and concerts and developing great community projects. Making Music want a volunteer to interview these groups so that they can learn from their experiences and help share their learning with other music groups across the country and for this reason have started a case study bank.

Community Cohesion Volunteers is an exciting new opportunity for community groups in Leicester to build bridges of understanding between communities who may have experienced hostility, isolation or conflict.

Oxfam
 
Oxfam look for volunteer speakers to deliver talks and workshops in schools and youth groups to raise awareness of the causes of global poverty, and the actions people can take to shape a better world. They are also currently looking for retail volunteers.

The PYCA Centre aims to assist members of the Pakistani and other minority ethnic individuals, to develop themselves in order to better participate in mainstream society. They seek a creative individual to assist to them to set up an e-newsletter; which will be sent to their members, partners, stakeholders etc in order to keep them up to date with their services and projects and market the achievements of our organisations and its clients.

RSPCA
 
RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a charity campaigning for animal welfare and prevention of cruelty to animals.

Saffcare
 
Saffcare is a voluntary organisation funded by Leicester City Council. They provide daycare for frail older people and older people with dementia, their aim is to reduce social isolation and help older people to maintain their independence.
 
Opportunities: Armchair Exercise Instructor, Aromatherapist, Musician for sing-a-long and Arts & Craft Instructor.
 
Times: Monday-Friday 1-3pm, minimum commitment 1 hour per week

 
Samaritans
 
The charity shop aims to raise funds to support the Leicestershire branch of the Samaritans. They need volunteers to help with all aspects of retail activity, greeting customers, running the till, sorting donations, pricing items and dressing window displays.

SECS Clinic
 
The aim of the SECS Clinic is to raise awareness of sexual health and to provide confidential drop-ins for students. The volunteers will be fully trained by local professionals and will be distributing free condoms, pregnancy tests and Chlamydia tests as well as advice on any other issues. Volunteers will work in pairs for the confidential sessions and be fully supported by DMU staff.
 
Opportunities: Sexual Health Promotions Team & Sexual Health Advisors.
 
Times: Clinics run on Thursdays 1-3pm. A regular commitment of 1 hour per fortnight on rota basis is required. 
 

 
Sense
 
Sense campaigns for, provides advice, information and specialist services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them. Sense holidays give deafblind people the chance to get away from it all, taste new experiences and have a lot of fun!
 
Opportunities: Holiday Volunteer
 
Times: Volunteers must commit to 1 week (i.e. 1 holiday) between 23rd July and 22nd August.

 
The Centre Project
 
The Centre Project provide a drop-in for refugees and asylum seekers to undertake social and community activities.
 
Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help run activities, spending time talking to individuals and assisting the group leaders. New opportunities as Sunday Lunch Volunteer, Computer Tutor & English Support Tutor.
 
Times: Flexible hours to suit the volunteers.
 

 
The Cinnamon Trust
 
The Cinnamon Trust support older people to look after their pets. This becomes particularly important when the elderly person goes into a care home or hospital. They also provide a service to match up those who have lost pets and pets who have lost their owners. Volunteers can help the elderly person look after the pet in the home e.g. dog walking or foster the pet until their owner returns home

The Monday Club
 
The Monday Club is a social group to support young people from Leicester with Aspergers Syndrome. The group run activities and also arrange trips out.

Wesley Hall Community Centre
 
Wesley Hall Community Centre is a day centre for people with mental health problem, who offer a range of leisure activities and support sessions for local residents. They are currently looking for Gujarati speaking volunteers to work with elderly residents from the local area on Fridays. They are also offering voluntary work in their Day Centre for People who have Mental Health difficulties.
