Age Concern
 
Age Concern seeks to maintain and improve the quality of life and dignity of older people. People across the UK will be supporting the 2010 Big Knit campaign by knitting a target of 640,000 little woollen hats to sit on innocent smoothie bottles in November in Boots and Sainsbury stores nationwide.  Age Concern Leicestershire & Rutland has pledged to make 12,000 little hats and needs your help to achieve this challenging total which will assist its winter warmth campaign.

Caribbean Carnival
 
The Carnival is an annual event taking place in August. It is a vibrant and very popular event and there is a range of volunteering opportunities available in the run up to the event and on the day itself.
 
Opportunities: Costume Designers, Website Designers, Administrative Assistants
For the day: Stewards & Parade Ushers
 
Times: Flexible to suit volunteer. 
 

 
Catch 22 - Leicester Youth Inclusion Project
 
The Leicester Youth Inclusion Programme work with 8-12 year olds who have been or are at risk of being excluded from school. The programme works with children from 3 areas of Leicester in an after school setting.  The project staff look for volunteers to lead a six week programme of activities which can cover a variety of interests including arts and crafts, drama, dance or music.
 
Opportunities:  After School Club Leaders, Club Assistants
 
Times: After school on days decided by the volunteers and Project Staff to suit.
 

 
Coping with Cancer
 
Coping with Cancer work locally with people who have been affected by cancer and those who are currently undergoing diagnosis/treatment.
 
Opportunity: Art Therapy Assistant
 
Times: A regular weekly commitment is required of approx 3 hours per week. 
 

Endeavour
Endeavour exists to provide programmes of practical and challenging experience to help young people to develop their potential as individuals, in teams and as active members of society.
Opportunities: Film editing, Photographers, Publicity designers, Journalists
Times: Negotiated with Endeavour to suit

 
Essensual Rejuvenation
 
Essensual Rejuvenation Dance is a voluntary run organisation who aim to provide young and old people with opportunities to become fit and active. They run dance and fitness sessions 50 weeks of the year, with all sessions, shows and performances led by volunteers.
 
Opportunities: Poster / Business Card Designer and Web Designer
 
Times: Flexible to suit, all work carried out at home

FUSE Project - Currently Full
 
Fuse mentoring works with 13-16 year olds living in care in Leicestershire. Mentors are students and staff at DMU and they meet up with their mentees once a week for 2-3 hours over a minimum of 6 months. A volunteer is required to design flyers to help promote the project. Two different designs are needed, one design aimed at mentors and another aimed at social workers.
 
Opportunity: Graphic Designer

Headway
 
Headway is a voluntary organisation specialising in providing support and services to adults with an acquired or traumatic brain injury and their families.
 
Opportunities: Promotional Video Volunteer, Graphic Designer

Hospital Radio Fox
 
Radio Fox is a radio station based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary who produce a variety of programmes and request shows for patients and visitors to the hospital. 
 
Opportunities: Radio Show Assistant, Presenter

InterNICHE
 
InterNICHE is an international network promoting humane education and scientific alternatives to animal testing in the life sciences. Volunteer-led, this organisation relies on voluntary support to carry out its campaigning activities

Learning for the 4th Age
 
L4A aim to provide 1-to-1 educational and learning services to care home residents. They look for volunteers with a variety of skills and interests to be matched with a local elderly resident to share these interests and complete activities with them.
 
Opportunity: Learning Mentor
 
Times: Approx 3 hours per week, flexible to suit. 
 

 
Leicester Comedy Festival
 
The Leicester Comedy Festival is an annual event which attracts national press attention and interest every year. The Festival team relies on the support of volunteers to assist the preparation and running of the event and a variety of positions are available between November and February.

Leicester Print Workshop promotes fine art printmaking. From its fully equipped studio in Highfields it offers opportunities for artists to practice their craft and it delivers a full programme of education and exhibitions.

Leicestershire Community Projects Trust - Currently Full
 
The Trust’s Mission statement is to promote change and reduce harm by providing information, advice and support to individuals and families affected by alcohol and drug use. The LCPT is launching a T-Shirt making business as a social enterprise for service users.
 
Opportunity: Graphic Designer

LeicestHERday Trust - Currently Full
 
The LeicestHERday Trust is an umbrella organisation formed to give an equal voice to all women and enhance the community at large by enhancing women's life experiences.
 
Opportunities: Interviewers and Transcribers
 
Times: Volunteer Transcribers asked to commit to approx 10 hours of work per week, Interviewers can choose times and days to volunteer to suit. Minimum 3 - 4 hours

 
Making Music
 
This local organisation is looking for organisers to co-ordinate a number of events ranging from small local arts forums to large scale regional music events. Tasks would involve researching and booking venues, advertising and marketing the events, and help dealing with bookings. Volunteer Marketing Co-ordinators are also needed to help communicate and promote events to membership.
 
Opportunities: Event Organiser, Marketing Co-ordinator, Newsletter Editor, Researcher
 
Times: Flexible around other commitments, there is also the opportunity to volunteer from home. 

 
Mencap
 
Mencap provide services and activities to people of all ages who have a learning disability. There are opportunities to get involved in delivering sessions for their members and also to help with their regular dance classes for young children.
 
Opportunities: Activity Leader, Dance Class Assistant

Peepul Centre
 
The Peepul Centre is a multi-purpose venue in the heart of Leicester. They host a series of cultural, sporting and community events and seek to place volunteers in many aspects of their work.

Richard Attenborough Centre
 
Volunteers will help support many activities at the centre and will be placed according to their specific interests: e.g. arts marketing/curatorial/arts management/arts & disability etc.

Saffcare
 
Saffcare is a voluntary organisation funded by Leicester City Council. They provide daycare for frail older people and older people with dementia, their aim is to reduce social isolation and help older people to maintain their independence.
 
Opportunities: Musician for sing-a-long and Arts & Craft Instructor.
 
Times: Monday-Friday 1-3pm, minimum commitment 1 hour per week

 
Simon Shiekh Communications group
 
Simon Shiekh Communications group is a not-for-profit Public Relations agency which specialise in providing marketing support and managing fundraising appeals for charities based in Leicester, Northampton and Edinburgh.

Sure Start work with families providing support services and activities for children and parents to engage in. The centres are always looking for arts and craft, drama, dance, language and music activities to offer families which can be led by volunteers.

Trade Sexual Health

Trade Sexual Health is a community based charity who aim to improve the good health, both physical and mental of gay and bisexual men and women. Trade is looking for someone with experience of graphic design and marketing to help us create posters, flyers, leaflets and booklets to advertise their outreach events and services.

VISTA is a local charity providing vital services to blind and visually impaired people across the County of Leicestershire. They seek to place volunteers in many areas of their diverse work.
