Citizens Advice Bureau
Melton Mowbray and Blaby Citizens Advice Bureau are looking for volunteers to act as advisers; offering information about housing, finances, citizen’s rights and any other welfare issues. CAB volunteers are fully trained and supported throughout their volunteering.
Opportunity: CAB Adviser
Times: Volunteers need to be able to commit to at least 12 months, after their training period has ended. Approx 1 day a week is required as a minimum.
City of Sanctuary
Volunteers are needed to set up and run projects with local refugees and asylum seekers and to assist with fundraising ideas for this local charity. Opportunities also exist to attend events on behalf of the charity and give talks to raise awareness of the issues faced by refugees and asylum seekers living in Leicester.

Coping with Cancer
Coping with Cancer provide support to local people whose life has been affected by cancer, through ongoing counselling and support.
Opportunities: Telephone Support Line Assistant and Counsellor. Counsellor's must be either in the process of completing a Counselling diploma or already possess the qualification. Both roles require previous experience either in a paid or voluntary capacity.
Times: Flexible hours, a minimum commitment of 12 months is required to fit around your timetable and vacations.
Domestic Violence Integrated Response Project
DVIRP provides emotional support and practical advice to individuals suffering or surviving domestic violence and aims to increase awareness of the issue.
Opportunity: Help Line Volunteer
Times: Flexible hours, regular commitment. Full training provided.
Futures Unlocked - Currently FULL. Please check back in January 2010.
Futures Unlocked is a registered charity which aims to support ex-prisoners through the prison gates and successfully back into the community, thus breaking the cycle of offending and reducing rime.
Opportunity: Mentor
Times: Approx 2 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months
InterNICHE
InterNICHE is an international network promoting humane education and scientific alternatives to animal testing in the life sciences. Volunteer-led, this organisation relies on voluntary support to carry out its campaigning activities

National Probation Service
The Probation Service work with offenders once they are released from prison. The Leicester office are currently taking on volunteers to support offenders through their probation period and re-integration with the Leicester community.
Opportunity: Mentor
Times: Regular 2 hour commitment required to fit around other commitments for a minimum of 6 months.
Nightline
Nightline is a telephone advice and information service run by students for students at De Montfort and Leicester University.
Opportunity: Nightline Volunteer
Times: Two shift per month (8am-8pm) and fortnightly meetings
SAFE Project
The Safe Project are currently looking for volunteers to become SAFE Assessors and help to make their local community safer by visiting the homes of vulnerable local residents and assessing how safe and secure their house is. Volunteers work in pairs to visit the house and carry out an evaluation report, making recommendations for home security improvements.

SECS Clinic
The SECS clinic is a confidential sexual health information point. The volunteers are trained to give out free condoms, pregnancy testing kits, Chlamydia testing kits and general sexual health information. The DSU clinic runs on Thursdays 1-3 and volunteers run the clinic on a rota basis.

Shelter
The national housing and homelessness charity Shelter is setting up a local campaign group in Leicester and is looking for members. Hundreds of thousands of people across the UK are trapped in housing that is temporary, overcrowded or dangerous because they cannot afford to buy or rent a decent home.
Opportunities: Housing Campaigner - This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and improve existing ones whether it is art and design, photography, research, writing, event organising, public affairs, debating or just talking to people!
Times: Volunteers meet on average once every month for approx 2 hours, plus occasional time spent on campaigns.
Victim Support
Victim Support aims to provide support and advice to victims of crime and increase knowledge and awareness of the effects of crime.
Opportunities: Victim Support Volunteers, Witness Service Support
Times: Half a day per week for a minimum of 6 months
Volunteers are needed to work with young people to empower them to live crime free lives. Referral Orders are a new disposal given to Young People who have no previous convictions and plead guilty to their offence. Your role as a Panel Member would be to design a legally binding contract drawn up by yourself and other trained members of the community. The aims of the contract are to facilitate the young person to: Repair the harm they have caused to the victim; take responsibility for their actions and reduce the risk of them re-offending.
