Over 250,000 students graduate from University each year – what makes you StandOut?

StandOut is an extra-curricular activities programme aimed at enhancing students’ personal and social development, as well as providing you with additional opportunities to learn new skills, increase your employability and have fun.

Following the huge success of last year, we now aim to teach 2 courses, the basic sign language course (unit 101) will last 5 weeks and a more advanced course (units 102 / 103 combined) will last 15 weeks. Students will be taught with an authentic deaf speaker and potentially given the opportunity to converse with other deaf speakers. Unit examinations can be taken however these will need to be arranged with the tutor directly. Booking for this course is advisable.

·         Foundation Makaton course
Similar to the BSL course, we work alongside an external tutor to provide tuition in learning makaton. This course is great for students with a general interest in makaton, those working with younger children with learning difficulties and those studying Speech and Language Therapy.

This course is run in conjunction with F1 Driving School. It provides participants with access to a Driving Instructor to discuss various aspects of the theory test. This interactive course uses CD roms to offer individuals the chance to take mock tests and discuss their answers with the tutor. Participants will be provided with a copy of the Highway Code. Included in the cost of his course is the fee for booking your theory test. Participants are also given discounted driving lessons with F1 Driving School.
