De Montfort University Students' Union is run by students for students and is committed to being a democratic organisation.
DSU works to ensure that students’ needs are met effectively and directed by students themselves.
In order to do this, we have various elected students who put themselves forward to represent the needs of other students for specific issues. These can be on university experience/recreational matters through our student officer strand or on academic issues on a course, programme level or faculty rank within our student rep strand.
There are many ways in which you can become involved in our representative structure ; whether it’s part-time alongside your studies as an elected Student Rep or Student Officer, as an elected full-time Executive Officer or just attending or contributing to the Annual General Meeting. These are all valuable roles in ensuring students’ needs are considered during their time at DMU.
Any student is entitled to stand for election as an officer/representative of the students’ union providing they meet certain criteria.
Every student is entitled to vote, and can do so using their personalised MLE account between the dates specified for each election. The MLE (Managed Learning Environment) can be found at www.my.dmu.ac.uk
Electronic voting is fairly straightforward. You can read candidates’
manifestoes by clicking on the link for each named person. All you need to remember to do is to press submit at the bottom of the online ballot page or else your vote will not be stored.
Student Reps are elected by their course peers during class tutorial or lecture sessions, ask your tutor when they intend to hold these elections.
You will need to use your P-number to log in and your password. If you have trouble logging in, DMU faculty specific support staff can assist, approach them in your faculty’s computer suite room.
