The Student Council has a dual function. Firstly it will discuss, debate and decide on policies that the union will adopt. Secondly, it will hold the Executive Officers to account for the work that they do.
Any member of DSU can propose policies to the Council, although only council members can vote.
Although some policies are decided by the Council, policies which could greatly effect the workings of the Union will be decided by a referendum.
Council is made up of our 15 Student Officers, 6 Faculty Representatives and 8 open places.
The Student Officers have selected remits to guarantee the views are heard from differing selections of our membership. Many positions are available for the 2011/12 sessions. If you are interested please contact Colina Wright, the Democracy and Representation Manager on ccwright@dmu.ac.uk.
Academic representation is critical on our Council. We ensure each Faculty has a representative, with additional provision for the views of our Charles Frears Campus.
