► International Students Fees Regulation Policy
International students’ fees regulation Policy
The Union notes:
Leicester is renowned for its diverse and multicultural environment. It consists of people who are very different in terms of their culture, background and lifestyles.
De Montfort University is a proud establishment who supports and welcomes international students to be a part of it.
In the recent years we have seen the international student population grow by more than 20%; this is due to our excellence in teaching and support.
Currently 10% of the composition of DMU is made up of international students.
The Union believes:
The University should cap international tuition fees to the levels set for the academic year 2008/09.
If there is a need for an exceptional increase in tuition fees for both home students and international students, the University should provide a detailed rationale outlining why these increases are necessary.
There should be more support and facilities for international students provided by the University, for example the provision of additional funding, scholarships, bursaries, etc.
The Union instructs:
The Executive Committee will encourage the University to cap tuition fees as detailed above and regulate them more transparently.
The Executive Committee will campaign to ensure that the University works in conjunction with banks to enable international students to open accounts more easily and to provide more support and facilities (no charges, overdraft allowance, etc.)
The Executive Committee will campaign to ensure that the University works in conjunction with travel agencies and other transportation companies (e.g. Arriva) to provide discounts to international students which could be added to the usual NUS discount.
The Executive Committee should campaign to have representation to the University’s Fee Committee.
