ANTI-HARASSMENT POLICY
This Union Notes
- DSU Sexual Harassment Policy lapses at this AGM.
- DSU aims to acknowledge student diversity and promote equality in all areas of student life.
- DSU aims to provide a safe space for students.
This Union Believes
- DSU student policy should go above and beyond what is expected of most other organisations, in regards to harassment policies.
- That DSU is an institution that exists to represent the interests of its members.
- This policy is inclusive of any type of harassment, based on race, colour, ethnic or natural origin, nationality, religion or belief, gender, martial status, sexual orientation or disability.
- Harassment is the term for unreciprocated, unsolicited and unwanted behaviour. This may take many forms, including:-
- Innuendos
- Verbal abuse
- Casual comments
- Physical assault
- Threat of physical assault
- Harassment is not acceptable behaviour.
- Harassment is potentially harmful, both physically and mentally.
- That literature can however, be used as a positive means for awareness to be raised.
- Union officers and those included in DSU union membership should not perpetuate or be seen to perpetuate harassment.
This Union Instructs
- That its facilities should not be used to perpetuate harassment through literature or otherwise, either within the Union or in the ‘outside world’.
- That any of the above behaviour will NOT be tolerated from any member of DSU or authorised visitor.
- That if any occurrences are reported, the matter will be investigated and the member in question could be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with both DSU and DMU guidelines.
